WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

This position is an entry level Technician position for the Bolthouse Farms Research & Development team based in Bakersfield, CA. This position requires a highly motivated, innovative, and organized candidate with strong communication and technical skills. The Technician will support numerous R&D projects with laboratory, pilot plant, and production scale experiments under the guidance of R&D Scientists. A background in Science or Engineering with experience in food process/product development preferred.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Support daily pilot plant operations with cleaning, sanitizing, processing, and clean up
  • Support pilot plant operations to ensure product and process specifications are met
  • Conduct trials in the pilot plant or manufacturing facility to assess manufacturing capability
  • Assist with experimental design to support pilot scale troubleshooting
  • Support projects with laboratory analytical work
  • Provide technical assistance to cross functional team members when necessary
  • Support data management, documentation, and specifications
  • Balance multiple project initiatives simultaneously and be flexible to changing directions
  • Support general laboratory organization and function

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General knowledge of food processing equipment and technologies
  • General knowledge of ingredients and food systems
  • Organizational and planning skills. Can execute timelines with guidance, that contain primary as well as contingency plans
  • Good problem-solving skills. Can determine with guidance the root cause of a problem and execute effectively on solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills - oral, written, presentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, builds effective working relationship at all levels
  • Highly effective team player; willing to contribute in a wide variety of areas
  • Develop awareness of industry developments and pursue ingredient, product or technology advances for application to new and innovative product initiatives.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and seek creative solutions when necessary
  • Knowledge of experimental design
  • Computer skills include Excel, Word, Power Point, database and internet tools

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-year experience in field preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA and 4+ years industry experience (preferably CPG), experience in Fresh categories a plus
  • Consulting background gets bonus points!
  • Direct experience in CPG categories is strongly preferred
  • Expert in Excel, PowerPoint, Nielsen, Power BI, SPINS, IRI

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

  • Work environment includes office, kitchen, pilot plant and manufacturing locations.
  • Must be available to travel to various customers/suppliers and production facilities
  • Ability to walk or stand up to three-quarters of the workday. Physical ability to handle weights of approximately fifty pounds

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

  • 1st shift, Monday through Friday, when business requires overtime and weekends will be mandatory
