MycoTechnology is seeking to hire a Scientist/Engineer specializing in Downstream Processing (DSP) to join the Bioprocess Development group. This group is tasked with developing process technology for the manufacture of food ingredients, including proteins, small molecules, biomass, and crude extracts derived from mushroom mycelium-based and yeast-based fermentation platforms. The role will concentrate on the development and optimization of bench-top downstream processes and will provide support for scaling-up activities. This includes conducting laboratory and pilot-scale work to enhance existing technologies continually, transitioning them towards bench-top and pilot-scale downstream processes.

Preferred:

  • Perform independently complex lab activities running key experiments and ensures the execution of high-quality practical work and method development
  • Develop, design, and execute product recovery experiments supporting downstream process development, including biomass recovery from bioreactors, chromatography purification, impurity removal, micro-, ultra-, and dia-filtration (MF/UF/DF), and sterile filling
  • Design and execute experiments to support downstream process development activities, such as formulation development and stability studies
  • Identifies problems, analyzes possible causes and suggests improvements in methods, techniques, and equipment
  • Participates in data interpretation and assists in incremental improvement of current procedures and protocols
  • Documents procedures, maintains lab notebook, delivers concise reports on finished projects, and organizes (as needed) their distribution
  • Maintain and set an example for a clean and well-organized laboratory workspace
  • Adheres to company guidelines on safety and operational excellence in a semi-works environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, bioengineering, Microbiology, Molecular biology, Chemistry, Food Science or relevant field from an accredited college or university
  • 3+ years’ industrial (or relevant academic) research or equivalent experience
  • Background in the development of chromatography purification, UF/DF, sterile filtration, product recovery strategies
  • Strong technical knowledge in downstream processing, and clear understanding of basic fungal or yeast biology
  • Technical knowledge in protein production and purification technologies
  • Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Master’s degree in chemical engineering, bioengineering, Food Science or relevant field from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ years’ industrial (or relevant academic) research or equivalent experience. Technical knowledge in protein purification and downstream processing
