Your Role:

The Senior Accountant, Farm Operations, serves as a key financial partner to our Farm Operations and Accelerator Farm teams, ensuring accurate accounting and reporting for all farm-related transactions. This role assists in the daily management for all farm operations accounting tasks including AR, AP and GL functions, supporting farm cost analysis, maintaining compliance with internal controls, and providing insights that help the business make data-driven decisions.

What You'll Do:

Core Accounting Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily management for all components of farm operations accounting including AR, AP and GL functions including both the preparation and review of tasks
  • Ensure timely and accurate invoicing and AR collections for farm receivables
  • Lead the month-end close process for farm accounting, ensuring timely and accurate recording of revenues, expenses, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts related to farm operations, prepaid expenses, inventory, and contracted farmer payments.
  • Prepare and review quarterly Egg Pay rate updates for our lay farms or update as necessary
  • Prepare and review farm cost allocations and support variance analysis against budget and forecast.
  • Assist in the implementation of appropriate internal controls and lead project improvement efforts including assisting the manager in identifying continuous improvement opportunities

Farm Operations Partnership

  • Serve as the farm accounting liaison to Farm Support, Farm Ops, and Supply Chain, ensuring alignment on expense tracking, performance metrics, and capital projects.
  • Collaborate with Operations and FP&A teams to analyze production costs, feed, and flock performance trends.
  • Provide accounting support for new farm onboarding, expansions, and capital improvement projects.
  • Identify opportunities to expand cross functional reporting needed in order to improve accuracy and efficiency in farm-related processes.

Reporting and Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare schedules and support external audits and internal reviews.
  • Assist in the implementation of new systems or process enhancements, particularly within ERP (D365) and reporting tools.
  • Contribute to process documentation and standard operating procedures for the Farm Accounting function.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience required, ideally in manufacturing, agriculture, or CPG environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (D365 experience preferred).
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

  • Travel up to 20–30% to company facilities, manufacturing sites, and cross-functional meetings.

At Vital Farms, compensation decisions are dependent upon a variety of factors, which may include, but are not limited to, skill level, experience, education, training, market demands, and business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current starting annual base salary for this position is $90,000 - $105,000. Please keep in mind that hiring at the maximum end of the range would not be typical in order to allow for potential continued future salary growth.
